AFA Update - 01/10/24

We are approaching a critical point in our negotiations for our first contract. We have presented management with most sections of the agreement and are preparing to discuss important scheduling and pay provisions. Many Avelo flight attendants have been participating in our negotiations meetings and giving input on what we want to see in our legally binding contract with Avelo management.

Many of you may be aware that a text was sent out trying to undermine our collective efforts to get an agreement. In our experience, these efforts tend to be backed by management. Everyone who received that text on Monday plainly saw the obvious - management continues to be unnerved by the fact that we chose to unionize. They’re hoping they can convince us we would be better off if they (Avelo management) had complete control over our careers.

Management is probably getting nervous because flight attendants all over the country are fighting for what they deserve. Flight attendants at American and Southwest, in addition to our fellow AFA members at Alaska, United, Air Wisconsin and Omni, are demanding contract improvements. At the same time, the world is seeing just how important we are to passenger safety (listen to AFA International President, Sara Nelson, on NPR discussing the Japan Airlines accident).

It's obvious management doesn’t want us lumped in with this impressive and empowered group. It would be easier for them if we just let them decide our fate. But that’s not going to happen. Management wants to distract us from fighting for real gains. We must not allow them to do that. Avelo flight attendants have a union now and if you have questions or concerns please direct them to your Negotiating Committee Members.
